A reflection on my past 4 year journey of self growth!

September 1, 2018 by Melissa Leave a Comment

I let life defeat me 4 years ago. I woke up cranky about my day and was short tempered about everything and was not happy. I was not happy because I lost myself. I lost who MELISSA was. It took me these last 4 years to change that and I continue to learn about ME and what makes my life balanced and happy each day. I learned the importance of taking care of our self because no one is going to do it but YOU!  This 4-year journey started when I knew deep down I had to do something different. If I did not make a change, then life would stay where it was at and I did not want that. So…

“Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage and I promise something great will come of it.”

I was SCARED! I was uncertain, but I knew deep down in my gut I needed to do it! I signed up as a Beachbody coach on September 1, 2014 with the commitment to put myself first. Looking back on that day it was a turning point in my life that lead me to be as STRONG and STEADY for my family when life changed in an instant on August 5, 2018. That Sunday morning at 3am we we found out my husband had a brain tumor. The next two weeks after were a blur and he is now in recovery from his surgery and doing well.  I used what I had learned over the past 4 years and focused on being in the NOW and not to let my thoughts take me to places that would not do me any good.  I leaned on my faith and surrounded myself with loving friends when so much unknown was present. I knew my priority was my family and focused on that with a positive heart and loving attitude.

Coaching introduced me to personal development. It is part of our vital behaviors, to work and grow as a person. I did not think I needed it at the time, but listened because I made that commitment to myself for a change. It has grown me closer to my faith, my inner confidence and my purpose for life. Three of my favorite books are The Power of NOW, The Energy Bus, and The Magic of Thinking Big. (These are Amazon Affiliate links that when you click and purchase it helps me continue to grow this website. Thank you!)

I have also learned about priorities from our coaching team. How it is important to fill your buckets and not stretch yourself too thin. Find what brings you joy and is your focus in life at the moment. THEN SAY “NO” when things do not align with your priorities. That was a hard one for me to learn. I was a “yes” person and a people pleaser. I stressed myself out in the past trying to be everything for everybody and put myself through so much anxiety for it. I plan my weeks out now, I keep things focused on our priorities and it has been life changing!!

My top 5 priorities are …

  • Grow in my faith, spirit and self care
  • Husband and marriage – time for us, keep it fun and have activity centered dates
  • Kids – family time together –one on one time with each child – create memories – be their mom and present in their life
  • Health and Happiness – accountability, sharing recipes, life balance, growing friendships, meal prepping, working out
  • Hobbies bring me joy! – Time with my horse Balios, scrapbooking, teaching from home, positivity, adding value to others, BLOG Bair Necessity

Coaching will always be in my life. I will never stop because it holds me accountable. It is about taking care of you through whole food nutrition, moving your body daily and support from an amazing group of people who believe in you! I had others on this team believe in me before I believed in myself. They will care about you and want to walk beside you in this health and happiness journey and those are people you want to surround yourself by.

The reasons why I continue to be a coach has changed through the years.

In the beginning, I was a coach for ME, to focus on finding MELISSA again. It gave me something to call my own outside my mommy role. I have learned through working out and eating healthy that it is not about perfection. It is about finding every bit of progress you make to keep going and showing up for yourself. I hope through my struggles and still finding time for me to make good choices, I have been that role model my kids deserve to have.

As I found myself and built my confidence in who I am, I started to share my story to help others. I also went after dreams again! I knew they needed to become my reality, so I worked hard and got my first horse, my dream horse! I started a BLOG sharing my passion for healthy family recipes and how I try to balance my life. I went to a horse training clinic too! (Big passion is to train horses one day!) They were all SO SCARY but SO VERY REWARDING!

Now coaching is another family to me. I check in and get pushed daily by seeing others showing up for themselves. They lift me up when I need it and the support is so comforting! I love to add value to others and share my progress and struggles so they know they are not alone. I want to spread more positivity in the world and show women that we deserve to put ourselves first and find our inner happiness and balance in life. This past four year journey made me the woman I am today and I am excited to continue to grow more into myself each day ahead.

So be in the NOW! Create lasting memories by being present with the ones around you.

Stop and smell the flowers. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so stop worrying about it. Embrace the moment you are in!

Breathe and know you are amazing and powerful being YOU!

To stressing less and playing more,

Melissa 🙂
