One Dish Chocolate Cake

December 23, 2016 by Melissa Leave a Comment

Birthdays are always a fun celebration in our house! We decorate, get a birthday balloon, and we make our birthday cake from scratch. Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you have to cut out everything. It is about moderation and picking ingredients that count too. That is why I like to make my own cakes.

My son is allergic to egg, so I am always looking for a good chocolate cake recipe. I found this simple recipe that only messes up one dish!! Huge plus for me!!

One Dish Chocolate Cake

Simple, kid friendly recipe. Delicious even without frosting! Not healthy by any means, but better than buying the store bought cakes with hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup. Simple to make and good for a special occasion to enjoy in moderation. I got this cake recipe from All Recipes. It is called Crazy Cake.

Recipe type: Chocolate Cake
Cuisine: Dessert
Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups organic cane sugar (I used less sugar since we aren't used to the sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups cold water
Instructions
  1. Have the kids help you sift the flour, sugar, salt, soda, and cocoa together into a 9 x 13 inch ungreased dish.
  2. Make three wells. Pour oil into one well, vinegar into second, and vanilla into third well. The kids loved this part!
  3. Pour cold water over all, and stir well with fork. I sprinkled some mini chocolate chips on top before putting it into the oven. Yum!!!
  4. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 to 40 minutes, (it took me 35 minutes) or until tooth pick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Frost with your favorite icing. (optional)
