Spooky Halloween Food

October 2, 2019 by Melissa Leave a Comment

When the kids were younger I seemed to have more energy to host Halloween parties. You can see some of the fun games I created in my Halloween Game Ideas blog post. I have not hosted a party in a while, but maybe next year? You never know! Here are a few spooky food ideas for a party or just for fun as a family to eat on Halloween!

#1 Breakfast- Pumpkin Cranberry Muffins

I like to keep the whole Halloween day themed with my meals, so this has pumpkin in it! Check! They can be made the day before also for a stress free morning. 🙂 A green smoothie packed with fruit and spinach could be a great side to this breakfast! We can call it zombie guts!

#2 Snack – Ghost Bananas and Pumpkin Organges

Just by looking at these it is pretty simple to make yourself. You will just need bananas, mini chocolate chips, tangerines and celery. You could also use green apples for the stem. Have the kids help assemble them and enjoy!

#3 Lunch – All Things Orange and Pumpkin!

The kids normally bring in their Planet Lunch Boxes to school but for Halloween we go old school with a paper bag and some fun creepy crawlers! The theme is orange and they loved the meat eye balls! Simple, but makes them the hit of the lunch table. If your kid likes PB & J sandwiches get a pumpkin cookie cutter to change it up!

#4 Party Dish- Skeleton Pizza Ribs

I got this idea many years ago from a Halloween pamphlet from Taste of Home. You can check out their recipe HERE. I loved the rib idea but the spicy chicken stuffing was not going to be popular with my younger crowd of kids. I decided to use my own homemade pizza sauce and make these cheese pizza ribs instead. They were a big hit! I got the foam skull from Michaels.

#5 Dinner – Zombie Spaghetti Pumpkins

This is a tradition that started in 2016 and has now become our go to dinner on Halloween night. 🙂 I have the peppers pre cut into pumpkins for the kids and then they use the heated up leftover Bair Family Spaghetti from the night before to fill them up!  A simple and quick dinner before heading out the door for trick or treating! I even roast some broccoli for a side if I have time.

#6 Dinner or Side Dish Option – Frankenstein Pasta

I got this recipe from the Super Healthy Kids website. We are not a big olive eating family, so we chose to replace them with cherry tomatoes. The kids loved it! This was a great side to our Zombie Spaghetti Pumpkins! This was great for leftover lunches the next day too!

# 7 Dessert- Ghosts in the Graveyard

A family tradition passed on from my childhood! I have revamped it to have better ingredients but it is still delicious! We make this every Halloween day to have as a dessert before trick or treating. Check out the recipe HERE!

#8 Beverage – Shrunken Heads in Cider

I found this idea from Martha Stewart. You can find her recipe for the cider and how to make the shrunken heads HERE. This was a lot of fun but does take time to carve out each head. I feel it is worth the effort though! I only have done this for parties and it was always a big hit! Leave out the rum of course for the kids. 😉

Well, that is all I have for you! If you want to learn about some of my family traditions not food related, please check out my blog post Halloween Family Traditions!

To stressing less and playing more,

Melissa 🙂
