What ingredients should we be avoiding?

May 14, 2015 by Melissa Leave a Comment

I am big on learning and reading more about what I put into my body. Today I wanted to share an article that will make us more wise on our decisions we are making in life with our nutrition.

Here is an article talking about the top 5 Ingredients we should be avoiding in our food.

I grew up on the typical American Diet, eating McDonalds, drinking soda and eating a lot of packaged products. My mom made homemade dinners from scratch but we had other foods that I would not touch today. It wasn’t until I got pregnant with my first child in 2006 that I had a wake up call on my nutrition. I wanted to give my daughter the best nutrition possible and started reading. I became fascinated with nutrition and all my romance novels got dusty and all I had were books on what to eat and how to raise a baby.

I did it slowly. Starting to add in healthier options over the years. I am where I am at today because of a slow progress of change. Please do not think you will just change your life drastically overnight. When we do things drastically, we tend to do well for awhile but quickly fall back into old habits and feel like a failure.

We want to make this a lifestyle that sticks, so my suggestion is to pick one ingredient off of this list to start avoiding the next time you go shopping. I am at the point now that we do not consume any hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, and recently I cut out food colorings. It took many years of slowly being more aware and reading those ingredients. Simple steps, one day at a time. You got this!!

Do you read ingredients? What are some ingredients you are becoming more aware of and want to start avoiding?
