Friday Pizza Night!! It is super easy to call up and have a pizza delivered but nothing tastes as good as homemade pizza dough with the love you put into creating your very own pizza with your family! The dough takes about an hour to make, so I make sure to make it earlier for it to have time to rise before dinner. Get the oven heated up while you are cutting up toppings. We normally do our homemade pizza sauce, freshly shredded mozzarella cheese, then some pepperoni, sliced tomatoes, diced red peppers, roasted garlic and onions. You can add any toppings you have on hand or your family enjoys! I personally love broccoli and will put that on when we have it. If you cannot do the flour pizza dough I have an amazing sweet potato dough you can make! LOVE IT!
Above you see we invite friends over as well on pizza nights. It is a big hit for birthday parties also! I use my Kitchen Aid Mixer to mix the dough ingredients and finish up with the dough hook to knead it. It comes in very handy for many of my recipes, including my homemade flour tortillas! Check out my link at the bottom if you are in need of a Kitchen Aid Mixer yourself.
After the dough is ready, everyone takes turns rolling the dough out or they use their hands to shape it into the form they want as you can see below. We have a dinosaur and a happy girl with pig tails. It changes each week!
My husband and I enjoy changing it up and making a calzone sometimes also. This dough recipe does a great job with any type of pizza you want to make with it.
Here is the recipe! I got it from a friend and it is a family favorite now! If you have left over dough balls, I have used them to make mini pizzas in the morning for my kids school lunches. It was the best mommy ever award that day! Check them out over on my Lunch Box Monday page.
- 2½ tsp Active Dry Yeast, 1 packet
- 1 cup Warm Water, 105F to 115F
- 1 tsp Honey
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil, plus additional for brushing the pizza crust
- 3 cups All purpose White Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- Set oven for 450 degrees.
- Dump in warm water, yeast packet and honey into kitchen aid mixer and let sit for 2 minutes. Then stir and add the olive oil, flour, and then the salt on top.
- Turn on the mixer until it is pretty well formed with just a few crumbles and then need it for a few minutes (or switch to the dough hook). Plop the ball of dough in a bowl, cover with saran wrap and set the timer for 30 minutes.
- When thats done need a little more, divide into two or four dough balls. I get a cookie sheet, cover that in saran, spray with olive oil, put the dough balls on that, spray them with pam so the saran doesn't stick to bad. Cover with saran and set the timer for 30 minutes again.
- Once done roll out into pizzas. Add sauce and toppings and cook for 10 - 12 minutes at 450 degrees F.
