Herb-seasoned Turkey Patties

December 25, 2016 by Melissa Leave a Comment

I came across this Turkey Burger recipe in the book “Eating Your Way To Good Health” by Doug Kaufmann. Doug Kaufmann’s website is called Know the Cause. We have grilled it and also pan fried it (as the directions mention). They are always amazing with flavor!!!! The kids love them and so does the hubby! I like to double it so i can freeze some for another night. Or i use the extra for lunches for the week.

I like to pair these with my homemade sweet potato fries and a vegetable in season.

You will need one bowl to add in all your ingredients, starting with your ground turkey, then your chopped onion, salt, pepper, an egg, and all the amazing spices that make these taste SO good!  Then grab gloves or go in naked with your hands to mix it all up. Mix it up really well, your hands will get cold if the meat just came out of the refrigerator. Just a warning.

Each pound of turkey you use makes on average 4 burgers. Sometimes I get an extra one out of it. Place your raw burgers on a plate until you are ready to grill or pan fry them.

Now get your large pan out and heat it up. You will use your butter or ghee to cook them in. I love KerryGold butter.

It is now time to cook these burgers up!!! Heat them on both sides for about 10 minutes each. Remember not to have the heat too high, you want to slowly sauté them. Keeps the juices inside.

While the burgers are cooking, you can slice and dice all your toppings and a side you plan to serve with it! You can have buns or have lettuce wraps to go bunless. Sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and avocado are great additions to your burgers. If you use ketchup, look for a brand that does NOT have high fructose corn syrup in it.

When you have more options to chose from your kids are more willing to pick one than not having any. It starts giving them ways to experiment and try new flavors. It makes eating FUN and tastes so good in the process. Here was my plate! Focusing on veggies first!

How do you like to eat your burger? I like no bun with tomatoes and a lettuce wrap. Goat cheese is a great topper too if you can have dairy.

TIP: This turkey burger is a great meal prep lunch for the week too!

Enjoy this burger with a bun or no bun. I personally like a lettuce wrap, sliced tomato and goat cheese on top. I got this recipe from the book "Eating Your Way To Good Health" by Doug Kaufmann.
Author: www.bairnecessity.com
Recipe type: Burger
Cuisine: Dinner
Serves: 4 servings
Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon each dried marjoram, basil and sage leaves
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • thinly sliced cucumber and lemon for garnish
Instructions
  1. Combine turkey with onion, salt, black pepper, marjoram, basil, sage and egg.
  2. Shape into 4 large patties.
  3. Heat butter in heavy skillet and add turkey patties. Sauté slowly over medium heat (about 10 minutes on each side), or until cooked through.
  4. Remove to a heated platter. Top each patty with lemon and cucumber slices.
  5. Tips:
  6. ** For my toddler allergic to egg I make a separate patty with no egg, before I mix it into the mix. It still comes out yummy and he loves it!
  7. ** I make a big batch of these and cook them all, then freeze them two to a pack for a quick lunch here and there. They still taste amazing!
