Pakistani Kima

December 15, 2017 by Melissa Leave a Comment

I found this recipe at Wellness Mama around 2013 and it became a favorite dish I made after the birth of my son because it was simple and easy to make with little clean up. Any mother loves a one pot dish! The only thing that takes time with this dish is the dicing of the sweet potatoes but if you plan ahead or do it earlier in the day it is not that bad.

This dish goes very fast when you have everything diced and measured out before starting. When you are ready, follow the directions in the recipe below and you will make this delicious dish in about 20 minutes. I had to cook mine a little longer today after I tried a sweet potato and it was not soft enough. So just simmer a little longer if needed. Enjoy!!

This dish is a favorite for my husband and I but the kids are not a fan of the flavor. The flavor is different to the more bland dinners I used to cook when they were younger. Slowly though, they are eating more each time I make it so I think it will be a family favorite one of these days. I am not giving up!

Recipe type: Dinner
Cuisine: Pakistani
Serves: 6 servings
Ingredients
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef (I get grass fed)
  • 1 (15 oz) can of diced tomatoes (drained)
  • ¼ cup butter (4 tablespoons) I use KerryGold
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and diced into small cubes
  • 1 pound fresh or I use frozen green beans (make sure they are pre cut)
  • 1 teaspoon each of salt (himalayan pink salt is my favorite), pepper, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric and garlic powder
Instructions
  1. Melt butter in a large skillet then add the diced onion. Cook about 3 minutes until they are translucent.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until well browned. While that is cooking add in the curry powder, salt, pepper, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric and garlic powder
  3. Once the meat is browned, add in the drained diced tomatoes, diced sweet potatoes, and green beans
  4. Cover the pan and simmer for 20 plus minutes or until the sweet potatoes have softened. I check about half way through to see how it is doing and if it needs more moisture I add some water to the bottom.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy the amazing flavor and healthiness this dish brings!
